CHURCH LIFE

MEMBERSHIP CLASSES

Membership classes are held twice per year, usually in the spring and fall.  These classes are planned to initiate new members into the church, and also to help long-time members “brush up” on their membership.

BIBLE STUDIES

Bible studies are offered throughout the year, with a focus on the Advent Season. Sometimes the studies focus on books of the Bible, like the study of the Psalms, or a book study will be offered as when we studied Faithful: Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph by Adam Hamilton. Studies are led by Pastor Wade Panse and are open to all.

HEARTY FELLOWSHIPS

Hearty Fellowship lunches are held after worship every month that has a 5th Sunday. This year, 2019, the lunches will be on March 31 and  June 30. Hearty Fellowship is just a fancy name for “pot-luck.” Just bring a dish to pass – or not – and stay for lunch!

THE FAITHFUL PEARLS CHORAL GROUP

The Faithful Pearls is a newly formed chorus of church members who enjoy singing. The “Pearls” offer a special music selection several times a year during worship. Membership is open to all who enjoy singing praises to the Lord.

FALL YOUTH FEST

This fall we had our first, hopefully annual, Fall Festival. There were a variety of free activities for the youth of our community, including bounce houses, face painting, crafts, trick or treating, and a costume contest. Dinner was also offered to those who attended.

The idea came about after discussing the lack of youth in our, and surrounding, churches. We wanted to reach out to the community in hopes to show the positive influence a church can have on our youth.

Multiple church members worked together to that the event was a success. We heard so many positive things from those that attended and we can’t wait to do it again next year.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a Christian outreach program sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. Each year, thousands of churches and service organizations who participate in this program pack millions of shoe boxes with small gifts and personal items for children ages 2 to 14. These boxes are collected at local centers and shipped around the world to children in need. In addition to receiving a shoe box, each child hears about the message of Christ’s love and has an opportunity to receive a Bible in their native language.

The Cassopolis United Methodist Church has been involved in the Operation Christmas Child Program for many years. Karen Wright has headed the collection program for about five years. Church members usually donate 30 to 40 filled shoe boxes each year, along with generous donations for shipping and material costs of the program. Our local collection center is the Penn Friends Church, located between Cassopolis and Vandalia.

Christmas by candlelight

We began the Christmas season with a long tradition at Cassopolis United Methodist Church – Christmas by Candlelight. The fellowship hall and sanctuary were beautifully decorated and lit by candles as women from the community came together for a wonderful evening of dessert and music – a quiet period to remember what this season is about.
